I am a patient, qualified and highly experienced music teacher, working with both children and adults in a one-to-one studio setting. For over 30 years I have taught in my own studios as well as in a range of schools across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
My teaching approach places a strong emphasis on clarity, structure and individual learning needs. I have extensive experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including autism, ADHD, acquired brain injury, visual impairment and blindness. Lessons are carefully shaped to support confidence, understanding and steady progress at a pace appropriate to each student.
My aim is to help students develop the skills, confidence and enjoyment that come from becoming capable musicians. I also have experience teaching students from a range of faith backgrounds and understand the importance of selecting appropriate repertoire and teaching approaches that respect personal and cultural values.
My academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Classical Guitar Performance. My second instrument is flute, which I also teach. For many years I have created arrangements of music for solo instrumental guitar performance. Some of these arrangements are available for free download in my guitar arrangements library.
My musical and professional career has included performing as a guitarist and vocalist in cover and original rock bands, providing solo instrumental guitar music for weddings and private and corporate functions, as well as working in broadcast media as a television presenter and radio announcer.
