I am a patient and highly experienced teacher of music, working with both children and adults in a one-to-one studio setting. For over 30 years I have taught in my own studios as well as in a range of school and corporate environments across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
My teaching approach places strong emphasis on clarity, structure and individual learning needs. I have extensive experience working with students who have learning challenges, including autism, ADHD, brain injury, visual impairment and blindness. Lessons are shaped carefully to support confidence, understanding and steady progress at a pace appropriate to each student.
I also have experience teaching students from faith backgrounds that require sensitive teaching approaches and appropriate repertoire selection, and I am mindful of aligning musical material with personal and cultural values where needed.
My academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Classical Guitar performance. My second instrument, which I also teach, is flute. Alongside teaching, my professional background includes many years of arranging music for solo instrumental guitar performance and working with students across a wide range of musical styles and personal goals.
In addition to my teaching work, my musical career has included performing as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter in original and cover bands, as well as providing solo instrumental guitar music for weddings and private and corporate functions.
